MORTAL KOMBAT II ARRIVES — JOHNNY CAGE ENTERS THE FIGHT

MAY 8, 2026 · NORTH AMERICA / WORLDWIDE RELEASE

ROUND TWO. FIGHT.

From the arcade to the big screen, Mortal Kombat II returns with a new round of familiar faces, new challengers, and the fight for Earthrealm. The New Line Cinema sequel opened in theaters and IMAX across North America on May 8, 2026, with its international rollout beginning May 6.

Director Simon McQuoid returns after the 2021 film, with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. At the center of the sequel is a major addition to the cast: Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, the sunglasses-wearing action star whose arrival brings one of the game's signature personalities into the new film series.

ENTER JOHNNY CAGE

The fight extends beyond personal rivalries. The champions of Earthrealm must confront the rule of Shao Kahn, with the stakes reaching across realms. Returning and new fighters include Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Shang Tsung (Chin Han), Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), and Scorpion / Hanzo Hasashi (Hiroyuki Sanada).

WHY THE ARCADE CONNECTION MATTERS

For The KOLAK Desk, Mortal Kombat is also a study in visual identity. Distinct fighter silhouettes, character introductions, stage environments, and unforgettable sound cues helped translate an arcade fighting game into a wider cultural reference point. Mortal Kombat II carries that identity back to cinema with the recognizable dragon emblem and a cast drawn from the original games.

Those connections between fashion, gaming, music, and visual storytelling are part of the creative conversation at KOLAK—where a character can be a design language in its own right.
